The digicam look, without hunting down a digicam
FREEDIGICAM '03 · Compact digital camera · 2003 · Video + photo
Old point-and-shoot digital cameras are the hottest thing at every party right now, and used ones are selling for far more than they cost new. DIGICAM ’03 is that little silver pocket camera from 2003, rebuilt for your iPhone, and it’s free.
What it looks like
Small, crunchy JPEGs with that early-digital colour: bright, a little blown out, a little too blue in the shade. Edges are soft, noise is chunky and blocky, and dark rooms get gritty fast. It’s the look of every MySpace profile picture and every 2000s night-out album.
The movie mode
Hit record and you get the tiny 320×240 clip at 15 frames a second that pocket cameras used to make: choppy, smeary and instantly nostalgic. It’s perfect for party clips and the kind of video that looks like it was found on an old memory card.
Why the digicam trend took off
Phone photos are perfect, and everyone’s look is the same. A digicam picture feels like a moment instead of content. Atticam gives you that feeling without buying a used camera, charging batteries or hunting for a card reader.
Tips
Shoot at night, shoot in crowds, shoot your friends mid-laugh. Don’t retake it until it’s perfect: the imperfect one is the good one.
Get it on your iPhone
DIGICAM '03 is one of eight cameras in Atticam, the app that rebuilds the cameras from back then for iPhone (iOS 17 or later). It’s free to use, with a small ATTICAM mark on your shots; Atticam Pro removes it.
