The 2007 Hollywood 35mm film look
PROCINE '07 · 2007 Hollywood 35mm movie camera · 2007 · Video + photo
Westerns, crime dramas and night-time thrillers shot on 35mm film right at the end of the film era. CINE ’07 is that studio movie camera, with sharp high-speed lenses and a fast tungsten film stock, rebuilt for your iPhone.
What it looks like
Muted, slightly yellow-tinged colour, rich deep blacks that still hold detail, highlights that roll off softly and very fine film grain. Because the film is balanced for tungsten light, the light around you decides the colour: daylight and moonlight go blue at night, streetlights and lamps glow warm, fluorescents turn green.
Shoots like a movie camera
Video runs at 24 frames a second with a 180° shutter (1/48 s), so movement blurs like a film. Exposure works like a film set: the stop on the lens closes as the light rises, shown live in the viewfinder. In daylight the crew puts an 85 filter on (AUTO), or leave it off for blue day-for-night.
Photos too
Switch the dial to PHOTO for a full-frame grab from the 4K scan of the negative: the same film, the same print, the same grain.
Tips
Shoot at night near streetlights, gas stations, motel signs or car headlights. Hold the phone sideways for the full 2.39:1 widescreen. Keep the camera still and let the scene move.
